One of the great ironies of launching a book about right-sizing work’s place in our lives is that it’s a lot of frickin’ work.
I’ve spent much of the last few years engaging in variations of the same conversation about work, identity, and meaning, which is why I’m thrilled to share that I’m now working on something completely different.
I’ve started to sink my teeth into a new meaty question: how do we gracefully embrace uncertainty?
People love certainty. We love experts who claim to know exactly when the market will crash. Job candidates who tell us exactly where they’ll be in five years. And romantic partners who tell us exactly what a shared future will look like.
There’s just one problem: no one actually knows what the future holds. And in our world of climate change, political instability, and deep fakes, the future has never been more uncertain.
For my next book, I’m exploring how to keep going when we don’t know what’s next. I’m investigating questions like: How do we make decisions in spite of doubt? And how do we maintain faith when it seems like the ground is crumbling beneath us?
As part of my research, I’m hoping to chat with people who have dealt with doubt and uncertainty in their lives. Many of the sources from The Good Enough Job came via recommendations from ABC subscribers, so I’d love your help once more.
Do you think you (or someone you know) might be good for me to interview?
Please fill out the form below to let me know. I’m open to chatting with anyone who might have a good story. Thank you in advance.

Personal updates:
I was on three (!!) major podcasts this week: NPR’s Up First, City Arts & Lectures, and Dan Harris’s 10% Happier
I’m living in Barcelona for the month of September. Let me know if you have any recommendations for things to do/eat :).
Warmly,
Simo
P.S. The song of the week is a classic Brazilian pop song from the 70s that has had a resurgence in popularity after it was sampled by Polo & Pan. The full songs of the week playlist is here.
