My boyfriend, a writer, broke up with me because I’m a writer
ABC 154: On couples who art together
Every so often there’s an article that seems to capture the attention of the entire internet. Alain de Botton’s Why You’ll Marry the Wrong Person. Anne Helen Petersen’s article on How Millennials Became the Burnout Generation. That NYT piece on the “bad art friend.”
This week’s piece is one of those. It’s an essay by a young writer whose journalist boyfriend broke up with her because she’s also a writer. It touches on art, jealousy, success, and male fragility.
If you’re anything like the thousands of people sounding off on Twitter, it’ll leave you wanting to share your thoughts—likely in all caps. Would love to know what you think.

Also, my course on designing your next career step officially kicks off in 3 weeks. I’m so excited! If you or someone you know is interested in starting the new year off with some intentional career planning, let me know!
Warmly,
Simo
P.S. I sat next to Leonardo DiCaprio on a plane yesterday. He spent the majority of the flight playing backgammon on his phone.
P.P.S. The song of the week is a 2-minute afrobeat banger that will have you groovin’ in your seat.
