The American Lie
ABC 138: Making sense of a week unlike any other.
I woke up relieved. After four years of holding my breath, hearing the news that Rev. Warnock and Jon Ossoff had won felt like an exhale. I was filled with hope for our democracy.
A few hours later, I watched as a man wearing a brown vest over a black sweatshirt walked through the halls of Congress with the Confederate battle flag hanging over his shoulder. This is America.
Like you, I’ve spent the days since trying to make sense of it all. Nothing has helped more than this article written by a historian of fascism and political atrocity.
It’s worth your time.
Here’s the piece: The American Abyss
Warmly,
Simo
P.S. The song of the week is a timeless south texas love song by Charley Crockett, a blues singer cut from the same cloth as Leon Bridges.
