It was difficult to name a winner of last Thursday’s presidential debate, but there was a clear loser: the American people.
This tweet summed it up well:
Despite the jokes and the memes, the prevailing emotion I felt watching these two men spew semi-coherent sentence fragments at one another was disbelief. How did we get to this point?
Over the weekend, The New York Times editorial board wrote a rousing call for Biden to withdraw, warning that remaining in the race would be a “reckless gamble.” Reading the piece, I found myself nodding along, but I’m still unsure of the Democrats’ best path forward.
I’m curious to hear your thoughts about this one in the comments.
Here’s the piece: To Serve His Country, President Biden Should Leave the Race
Warmly,
Simo
P.S. The song of the week is one of my favorite hip-hop songs from the past few years. Last night, we went to the song’s namesake’s restaurant in London. The full songs of the week playlist is here.
Thank you for leading a discussion on this topic. The New York Times courageously called out the truth-Biden needs to withdraw from the ticket for 2024. The poor debate performance was shocking and unacceptable. Any such performance would be grounds for dismissal in corporate America. This is not simply "a bad night". If Democrats want to show they are better than Republicans, then they need to call for a new nominee. The Biden campaign leaders need to be purged for gross negligence. The future of the country hangs in the balance.
