Every time I see a teenager dressing like a Seinfeld character, I think of something my friend’s dad once told me: “I just dress the same, and every twenty years I’m back in style.”
Fashion is cyclical, and we seem to have looped back around to the era of Big Pants. Alas, my slim-cut jeans have become passé.
This week’s piece is my favorite genre of magazine article. It’s a how-we-got-here explainer that combines history, psychology, and cultural criticism to place the next big thing in context.
But it’s not just an article about pants. It’s also an exploration of what makes a trend a trend and will make you question whether your preferences are, in fact, your own. It pairs 😉 well with this podcast episode on how to discover your own taste.
Here’s the piece: Why are pants so big (again)?
Warmly,
Simo
P.S. I’m obsessed with the grooves in Hermano Gutiérrez tracks. The song of the week is their hit, Cerca De Ti. The full songs of the week playlist is here.
